Date: 04-16-93 From: Trevor Ridge Subj: US Base In Australia There is no such place name as Pine Oak, but a name of the facility that you have in mind is probably Pine Gap. This is an alleged joint defence facility operated by both USA and Australian services, with American technology and know how. There are six white-domed structures, these are called randomes. They are thus covered in order to help disquise the type of aerial settings, lengths and other features. They are thought to be made of perspex. Officially it is known as the Joint Defence Research Facility. The name is a cover, as it is an American spy satellite base. It was planned by the CIA, is run by the CIA together with the NSA. It was established in 1966. It became operational in 1969. It was planned by Richard Stallings a CIA officer working under cover of the U.S. Defence Department. The Pine Gap Agreement with the then Australian Government was orchestrated by the CIA. Victor Marchetti, the Chief Executive Assistant to the CIA Deputy Director was the first commander of the base. It is one of the most important facilities outside of the USA to the CIA. The agreement was to operate for 10 years and was to be renewed. On November 2nd 1975 Whitlam accused the oppositiion parties of being funded by the CIA and charged that Stallings was a CIA operative. To 'blow' the cover of a CIA operative was a no no, especially by an Australian Prime Minister. Whitlam was thought to be a security risk in his own country. He had alluded to the agreement and that it's renewal was not sacrosanct. On November 11th 1975, the day Whitlam was to inform Parliment of the acitivities of the CIA in Australia he was summond to Government House, by Governor General Kerr and was sacked. Malcom Fraser was waiting in another room and became the leader of a caretaker Government. Purpose and Functions The Nation Review in May 17-23 1974 issue states that the US has been carrying out Electromagnetic Propulsion (EMP) research since it was established. President Nixon has stated that the project was to be completed by the end of 1975. But later announced that they had problems with the development of the electric vehicles that were to use the power generated and that they were four years behind schedule. These vehicles were to have replaced petrol driven vehicles (There was an alleged petrol shortage scare on at the time). The leading authority on the subject is Proffessor Desmond Ball, who wrote the book Pine Gap. He states that the base has the ability to pick up Soviet and Chinese telephone and radio communications and it also acts as a linking facility for the defence forces satellite survellience and intelligence collecting/electronic eaves dropping activities. It has been described by Mr Marchetti as a giant vacuum cleaner, bringing in material from all over the world. Further, each week US planes visit Alice Springs bringing in materials and supplies without being checked by the Customs Authorities. It actually controls the satellites. There are other facilities of a similar ilk here such as North West Cape ( near Exmouth Bay) , another is alleged to have been located at Longreach Queensland, another at the Blue Mountains. Stan Deyo in his book "The Cosmic Conspiracy" writes that it is located at longtitude 23 deg 48 min South by 133 deg 43 minutes East. It is controlled by the U.S. Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency, DARPA, located at 1400 Wilson Blvd. Arlington Virgina 22209, in the Architect Building. It is 15 miles from Alice Springs in the MacDonnell Ranges in the Northern Territory, not too far from the famous Ayres Rock (Yulara), about 350 ks. It is rumoured that Pine Gap has a very large nuclear power source to operate its tranceiver. Other projects are thought to be high energy physics, voltage, plasma and power generation technologies. It is further thought to have some connection with VLF radio transmission technology for use with nuclear or electric submarines. The Department of Transport registers the area as R233, however the area is not recorded in the current issue of The Macquarie Illustrated World Atlas. Is this an over-sight, a deliberate cover-up, an attempt to keep the information from our enemies or a conspiracy to hide the real purpose from the people that elect the Govenments that serve* us. * (for serve read control) I now quote from a file called Whitlam.doc which concerns a previous Prime Minister of Australia. The file was prepared by a Brian Ross and is titled A Secret Country: The Hidden Australia. -----------------------------------QUOTE--------------------- You have to remember that Australia was a highly important part of the CIA's world-wide intelligence setup. It has thousands of CIA employees stationed here and is a vital part of the early warning and nuclear war fighting system (how important was only revealed incidently during the Gulf War when Nurrungar grounds station which our government always claimed to have been there for "verification" was used to observe and report on Iraqi SCUD launches with its related DSP series satellite which is stationed over the Indian Ocean). The three major bases on Australian soil, Pine Gap, Nurrungar and North-West Cape were all of very high importantance to the US during the 1960's and 70's. After the ALP came to power in 1973, some of its members voiced very strong criticism of these bases (and one very now famous and revealing Phd Thesis by Dr.Des Ball, "A Suitable Piece of Real Estate" was published ;-) and began to demand an official explanation for their presence and at times even voted for their removal. Despite all this posturing, Whitlam and his cabinet didn't carry out these threats because despite their radical posturing were not about to leap into the political no man's land of cutting their ties with the West. They did speak of neutralism and non-alignment on occasion. but they were willing to settle for independence; which is all the Papandreous government wanted when it was overthrown by a CIA backed military coup and you have to remember that Greece was also another _very_ important US electronic spy site. ----------------------------------------END---------------------------- May I recommend for further reading on the subject the most illuminating book "A secret Country" by John Pilger.
