The utterly unexpected severity of the mutilations epidemic which has been unleashed all over Mexico in the past week is causing concern among citizens. Eighteen animals turned up dead in Texcoco, D.F., slain in the mysterious fashion which has come to be associated with the creature known as Chupacabras.
Regional newspapers such as "Sol de Occidente" and "Sol de Sinaloa" have covered nightmarish scenarios such as the event which took place in the state of Nayarit a few nights ago: Police fired a hail of bullets against a creature which turned about to glare at them with red eyes set in a humanoid face. Impervious to their ammunition, the entity jumped over a 2 meter tall fence and vanished.
Human survivors of recent attacks report being "engulfed by a shadowy figure" before losing consciousness. The marks left on the human victims -- caught on video and broadcast all over the country -- resemble ".45 caliber bullet holes" according to one observer.
Peasants in Sinaloa also report seeing humanoid "wolf-women" at night.
Jose Burria of Mexico's Department of Agriculture has reiterated that these attacks are caused by coyotes, dogs, etc. Otherwise, no official statement has come from the authorities. Animal deaths continue to rise in Veracruz, notably in Las Trancas and Nachital.
