The SIGHTINGS television program for the week of October 23, 1995 will feature a segment on a little-known but potentially significant UFO event that reportedly occurred in 1973. The following is SIGHTINGS' advance description of the segment. Check local listings for air date and time.
The U.S. Government, especially the military, has consistently denied all reports of UFO sightings near military bases. Does this mean that there has never been such an encounter? Or are government officials concerned that public discussion of these incidents could be a threat to national security?
The answer could lie with the 1973 sighting of a UFO over Hunter Army Airfield near Savannah, Georgia. Two military policemen patrolling the base claimed they had seen a UFO. Immediately following the incident, the men talked freely with the press. Within a few hours, however, they were ordered to remain silent -- which began a blanket Pentagon policy that still
stands.
Now, after more than twenty years, SIGHTINGS has found one of the policemen that witnessed the UFO, who reveals what happened that fateful night. What did they see that made the military order them to keep quiet? Find out on this week's SIGHTINGS.
