SWITZERLAND'S MILITARY DECLARES: NO DANGER FROM UFOs

BERNE, March 28, 1995 (Reuter) - The ever vigilant Swiss army sees no threat to national security from flying saucers -- and that's official.

The defence ministry, which runs the militia army that guards the Alpine country's neutrality, took the unusual step on Tuesday of formally denying media speculation it runs a special unit tracking reported UFOs, or Unidentified Flying Objects.

"The defence ministry has no reason to believe in the existence of UFOs or to assume that they pose a danger to security," it said in a statement.

A ministry spokesman said the statement was issued in hopes of putting an end to repeated queries from media and UFO enthusiasts about rumoured army archives on UFO sightings.

"There have been no UFO landings on the government square here," the spokesman added.
