ARICA -- Yesterday morning [Monday, March 31] at 00:55 hrs (12:55 A.M.) three UFOs were seen by control tower personnel of the International Airport of CHACALLUTA (city of Arica, the most northern city of Chile). According to witnesses, the UFOs were located over the ocean in front of "El Morro de Arica" and stayed there for about two hours, disappearing at very high speed towards the Altiplanic zone.
The Airport Chief, Mr. Julio Schnettler, affirmed that UFOs were at an altitude between 10,000 to 15,000 feet and had an undefined shape. He also stated that they emited blue, red, green and yellow lights which made [them] clearly visible to the human eye.
Mr. Schnettler also said, "In our control tower, it was not possible to detect them on the radar, so we contacted other airport control towers in Peru and Santiago [Chile]. None of them had flights registered for Arica at that moment."
He concluded [by saying] that the experience was wonderful. He was skeptic about UFOs, but not any more. He also stated that they moved at an astonishing speed.

Today [April 2] morning a local newspaper, "La Cuarta," published the following news: "UFO Sighting of Arica is Confirmed by LA DIRECCION GENERAL DE AERONAUTICA CIVIL."
This is the first time such an organization [has given] this statement.
LA DIRECCION GENERAL DE AERONAUTICA CIVIL said that they recognize publicly that Chile is experiencing UFO sightings, and that the phenomenon is real, not meteorological or climatic.
As far as I could find out, this is due to the high quality of the observation done by the control tower staff of the international airport of Chacalluta in Arica.
Also the UFOs DID appear on radar. The UFOs didn't show [on radar] when they were still [visible] in the sky but their movements were [later] seen on the radar and tracked [at] speeds up to 8,000 MPH.
