According to a report circulated by Alexandre Minoru Ito of the GEONI research group (email geoni@aquaserv.aquarius.com.br), a Brazilian military helicopter was pursued by a UFO in the region of Pouso Alegre, Minas Gerais state, in May of 1995. The witnesses on board did not break their silence on the event until recently.
As recounted by Ito:
"In the last year our research team was notified about a very interesting case involving a military helicopter. It belongs to I ComAvEx (1st. Flight Company of Brazilian Army), stationed in Taubate. The witness is a cameraman, and he authorized the publication of this case only now.
"In that helicopter was a mechanic-sergeant, a captain (the pilot), the cameraman and some soldiers (all the names are omitted for safety reasons).
"In May, 1995, this helicopter was in a training mission in the region of Pouso Alegre city, in the south of Minas Gerais state, Brazil (this city is close to Varginha [site of a famous UFO incident in January 1996 -- ed.]). At 11:30 p.m., approximately, an Unidentified Flying Object appeared. It was a long egg shape, very brilliant and with some colored 'spots' on the tips and sides. It was in front of the helicopter, which was at 300 feet of altitude, and it started to illuminate the helicopter with its spots [searchlights?]. All the scene was recorded by the cameraman in the helicopter.
"The pilot got instructions to change his course, and that's what he did; but the UFO returned to the front of the military aircraft, on a collision course. The pilot changed his heading again, and they were pursued by the UFO for approximately five minutes. All the military [men] in the helicopter were very nervous.
"Then the UFO just disappeared right in front of everybody.
"The VHS videotape vas requested by the pilot. He put it into his pilot suit, and when they returned [to base], he carried it out with him. Nobody knows where this tape is at this moment.
"What's obvious," Ito concludes, "is that the militaries are very worried about the UFO question. What kind of object was that which pursued an unarmed military helicopter, 'played' with it and flew away? Nobody in the I ComAvEx wants to discuss the case; nobody 'knows anything.' But, if it really was not a UFO, why was the videotape taken?"
As for the cameraman-witness, Ito says the GEONI team has determined that he is "reliable, serious and doesn't have any problems with his family."
