According to a January 13, 1998 Reuters newswire story, a Croatian daily newspaper called Vecernji List reported a close encounter between a peasant farmer and four aliens who landed in his field as he tended his cattle. The farmer reportedly chatted with the aliens in Croatian.

Jako Vrancic, a pensioner living near the coastal town of Sibenik, told Vecernji List that the four ETs landed quietly in an "iron-shaped spacecraft" near the spot where he was working.

"I felt no fear, as I had previously seen things like this on TV," Vrancic said. The aliens had the stature and build of human children, he said.

"We had no problem communicating, as they spoke a broken form of Croatian," said Vrancic, adding that he had offered them ham and dried figs, but they refused and said they were not hungry.

Vrancic is reportedly well liked in his village and was described as an honest and down-to-earth man by his friends.
