In the past few days I have spoken to some military friends who offered the following information, on the condition they remain anonymous.
At a military base located in northern Chile (desert region) where one of my military friends was doing some training between June and August, several UFO sightings took place. Two of them were spotted by military guards on the night shift. These two sightings took place on different nights and both times they saw a big light appearing from behind nearby hills, making flashes and erratic maneuvers. One of the guards was so scared that he had to call for backup.
The most impressive sighting took place during the day. One soldier was left alone by his friends during some exercises for about 10 minutes, and when they came back they found this man scared to death (he even wet his pants). While he was waiting for his friends to come back, he says he saw a metallic oval-shaped object about 100 meters away and suspended at about two meters from the ground. The object was about 10 meters in diameter.
There are also rumors that a UFO landed or crashed in the southern region of Chile near Osorno in the Cordillera de Los Andes in January of this year. The first informant contacted AION (Agrupacion de Investigaciones Ovniologicas, a well-known Chilean UFO research group) during one of their radio shows and said that in January some local farmers and cowboys told him they saw a bright object fall from the sky. At first they thought it was a meteor, but when it slowed down and started to make a movement like a falling leaf, they changed their opinion.
The object landed and could be seen with binoculars. It appeared bright and metallic looking.
Due to the temperature conditions at night, the informant returned the next day better equipped, to only find out that the crash/landing zone for approximately one kilometer around was sealed by Chilean military, who told him to leave and that they had strict orders to shoot if necesary.
Operations in the zone took two days and many helicopter flights to clean up whatever was there. Many people saw this activity. Some inquiries among military friends revealed that they know something happened, but they don't know what.
