Alarmed residents of the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon on August 20 reported seeing strange circular objects in the sky, sparking a scare that visitors from another world were suddenly taking an interest in their affairs.
The small discs were seen maneuvering through the sky along the length of the Bekaa and police stations were inundated with calls by apprehensive, curious and bemused members of the public.
However, there was apparently a more down-to-earth explanation for the objects' arrival, according to a military source. He said that the objects were a new unmanned reconnaissance vehicle or drone which was being tested by the Israeli army.
"The Israelis are changing their drones. The ones we are familiar with from last April are now being replaced by smaller and more accurate versions," he explained.
Whether this explanation will offer much reassurance to the residents of the Bekaa remains to be seen.
