50 PEOPLE SEE STRANGE LIGHTS NEAR SAN BERNARDINO

[CNI News thanks Jerry Glass (jglass@pe.net), State Section Director for MUFON Riverside, California, for sending this story.]

SAN BERNARDINO, CA -- Wednesday, April 22, 1998 at 9:05 pm [PDT], Cinde Costello, State Section Director for San Bernardino's Mutual UFO Network received a call on the "Hotline" from a woman who stated she works with the Job Corp.

The woman reported that at 8:55 pm that night, over 50 people witnessed three bright lights while looking east towards the Big Bear mountain area. When first seen, the lights were bright amber-yellow and appeared to be floating or hovering. The witnesses initially thought they could be hanggliders with lights. The three objects then began to move south and changed colors from amber to bright red. The objects were viewed for ten minutes before they were lost from view.

The caller stated that while only the lights were most prominent, at a distance she estimated to be one mile she could make out a wing-like structure on the objects that she described as "like a seagull's wings." A similar UFO was reported on January 5, 1998 during the daytime. This description also matches a wave of sightings which took place in the same area during 1979.

Witnesses included staff, security guards and trainees [of the Job Corps]. Reports are currently being filed with MUFON San Bernardino, and an investigation will follow.
