I didn't see the editorial; Antonio Huneeus gave me a synopsis. He's no dummy, but English is his second language, and perhaps some of the subtleties escaped him. As far as I know, this marks the first time we have been joined by a BBS that has direct ties to a skeptic's organization, in this case, the Bay Area Skeptics. This was one of the goals I wanted to accomplish way back when I first started assembling the net. I hope both sides profit from the dialogues that will ensue. The project consists of completing the lyrics to the following song, which is to be sung to the tune of, "The Ballad of Gilligan's Island." The best and most original stanzas, as judged by myself and Mike Corbin, will be concatenated to the song and the entire thing will be published in Oddysey (and hopefully elsewhere). The Ballad of The Roswell File Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, A tale of a UFO, That crashed on a ranch in New Mexico A long, long time ago. The next day the rancher found it in a field strewn with debris Just what it was or from where it came, Not a single clue had he. No wires, no buttons, no circuitry, Not a single battery; Just hieroglyphic writing and the corpse of an EBE. ....................... Its all yours, gang. Have at it. --Jim -- Jim Speiser - via FidoNet node 1:104/422 UUCP: !scicom!paranet!User_Name INTERNET: Jim.Speiser@f37.n114.z1.FIDONET.ORG -------------------------------------------------------------------- From: paranet!Richard.Slover Subject: Re: Dearing Predictions Date: 24 Oct 89 02:39:00 GMT OK, Jeff. This line of thought usually tries to make UFO's out to be a product of the earthquake stress or magnetic energy. I personally discount such theories, as the mechanism has yet to be demonstrated. However, I believe we have an excellent opportunity to test this. Surely, if there WERE such a relationship, and earthquake of the magnitude just experienced in California would produce at least SOME effects. Have any been recorded? Were ther any reports that have come to your attention from the Earthquake area in the weeks before the quake? Just a thought. They found a very high correlation between seismic activity and UFO sightings. The Nation Bureau of Standards did an experiment on plasma produced by high stress on rock formations. When a rock was crushed or pulled apart by high pressures, it produced a significant plasma display. This result was postulated as a possible source of UFO sightings. The sighting of a police officer in northern Minnesota, whose car was thrown off the road by a bright light has been considered one of these plasma displays. (This area of MN has high geologic pressures.) -- Don Sudduth - via FidoNet node 1:104/422 UUCP: !scicom!paranet!User_Name INTERNET: Don.Sudduth@paranet.FIDONET.ORG -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To have your thoughts in the next issue, please send electronic mail to 'infopara' at the following address: UUCP {ncar, isis, nbires, boulder}!scicom!infopara DOMAIN infopara@scicom.alphacdc.com ADMIN Address infopara-request@scicom.alphacdc.com {ncar,isis,nbires,boulder}!scicom!infopara-request ******************************************************************************** End of Info-ParaNet Newsletter ********************************************************************************
