"Vianney," secretary to the KLAS-TV news director, now says a decision was made NOT to sell any copies of the series because, although the series ends tonight, investigation is continuing and additional segments may be broadcast. 2. On November 25, newsman George Knapp will reprise and update the nine-part series in a two-hour, continuous report -- not another segmented series. This 11/25/89 report will apparently not be the same as the nine-part series but will include its substance. 3. A tape of the 11/25/89 report might be later sold by KLAS-TV for $75. 4. Available now for $75 from the station is another tape comprised of four (4) half-hour "On the Record" broadcasts, in which Knapp interviews John Lear and Bill Cooper. 5. On KVEG-AM stereo radio, 840 on the dial in Las Vegas, "The Billy Goodman Happening" talk show has been dealing with UFOs three hours a night, six nights a week, 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Sunday through Friday. Goodman has been involved in organizing expeditions to the outskirts of Area 51, taking bus loads of UFO watchers into the desolate region. Well, for one thing, Ray and I have found a couple other people who are interested in UFOs. From time to time we get together and discuss the subject. But, we haven't solved the mystery yet! We recently attended a talk by ex-astronaut Dr. Brian O'Leary. I picked up a copy of his new book _Exploring Inner and Outer Space_. I just started reading it, and it looks pretty interesting. During his talk he mentioned the Mars "face", so I asked if he knew whether Hoagland's predictions about the magnetic field of Neptune panned out. He said that he also could not figure out exactly what Hoagland was predicting. So, does anyone know what became of all this? What exactly was Hoagland's predictions, and was he right? -- Jim Torson - via FidoNet node 1:104/422 UUCP: !scicom!paranet!User_Name INTERNET: Jim.Torson@f1.n304.z1.FIDONET.ORG -------------------------------------------------------------------- From: paranet!f1.n304.z1.FIDONET.ORG!Jim.Torson Subject: Bill Cooper Date: 17 Nov 89 01:46:00 GMT Here is a message from Ray Jordan (who is usually in effect looking over my shoulder when I access ParaNet): I was just thinking about Cooper's presentation at the bastard session of the MUFON conference in Las Vegas. He said something to the effect that HE JUST HAD TO GET THIS INFORMATION OUT. He certainly seemed like a man with a mission. But, WHOSE mission? I was struck at the time with how sincere he seemed during the presentation. Although he seemed confident and well in control and not nervous is speaking, he was sweating profusely (perhaps the only speaker to do so). At the end, he seemed quite relieved. Again, he certainly seemed to have been driven. But, driven by his OWN conscious mind? Or, perhaps by a post-hypnotic suggestion from someone else? I'd be interested in an opinion of his behaviour from someone familiar with deep-trance subjects carrying out "implanted" suggestions. This may not clarify anything, but, can the waters get any muddier? -- Jim Torson - via FidoNet node 1:104/422 UUCP: !scicom!paranet!User_Name INTERNET: Jim.Torson@f1.n304.z1.FIDONET.ORG -------------------------------------------------------------------- From: paranet!Greg.Sandow Subject: Cooper, Cooper, Cooper Date: 17 Nov 89 08:25:00 GMT Well,, I'm newer to all this, and so it was illuminating to read all the further discussion (Bryon Smith's stuff) about Cooper's bad attitude -- not to mention mis- (or dis- ) information in the past. And of course some of his notions are absurd on their face: one out of every 40 of us has been abducted??? I still think there could be some grain of truth in it all, but I have to agree: he gives us very little help in determining where that grain might lie. This would vary with the individual. Text books often make make too much on things like the epileptic feud and olfactory halucinations. TELEVISION 'Not Tonight, Honey' It's TV sweeps time again. Which means that TV stations everywhere, in a last desperate attempt to attract viewers, have pulled out all the stops in this ever-important ratings period. Some of this month's proudest televison moments: KMOV St. Louis: "Not Tonight, Honey." Three-part series on people too stressed for sex. KSTP St. Paul, Minn.: "Is There a UFO Cover-up in the Military?" and "The National Chastity Association." WABC New York: "Cryonics: Freezing Life to Beat Death." WSB Atlanta: "Womb With a View?" Can we communication with unborn babies? "Geraldo": "Nymphomaniacs" and "Lady Lifers. Bad Girls Behind Bars." ------------------------------------------------- Sex, death, crime, and UFOs. Finally, the Newsweek editors realize how important UFOs are!! A few people here have wondered why there has been no national reaction to the recent Las Vegas TV stations' series on UFOs. Why should there be a reaction? What is the mechanism besides rumor that would alert the NY Times, ABC, NBC, Washington Post, etc., to what local TV stations are doing? Someone who knows the TV business help us out here. Is there some formal route that ABC uses to survey what their affiliated stations are airing locally? And, supposing that the big boys are even aware of what their affiliates are doing, there's that constant ridicule factor to overcome with the UFO. However, I believe the ridicule factor, despite the efforts of organizations like CSICOP and our secret government, is actually gradually lessening. An investigative journalist, who has published books in the field of secret intelligence, recently asked me if there were any good leads in ufology. Needless to say, I gave him an "earful". Who knows? Maybe he'll do some digging and come out with a book on UFOs and government secrecy in a while. The "problem" with the books by Good, and Fawcett and Greenwood, from the establishment point of view, is that Good, Fawcett and Greenwood are identified as clearly within the ufology establishment, and thus, not (of course) objective. More people like Ed Conroy need to comment on UFOs. This trend is increasing in the late 1980s and should continue into the 1990s. That critical mass is approaching in the field of UFOs. The open secret is becoming more open each month. The Las Vegas TV series have done their small part.
