I worry that such vague information may be of more harm than it is help, in that it may do more to confuse and diffuse the discussion than it does to illuminate the phenomenon. It may be the case that the perceived mystery surrounding the field circles, the hoaxers, and the observers is actually generated from the poor quality of the information we have been receiving. I'm usually extremely skeptical, but open-minded. If I ask for more evidence, or try to disprove something, please don't misinterpret it as a put-down. I do believe that there is something out there, but I'm also cynical enough to not believe everything I hear without proof. I think that if we can eliminate the hoaxes and the mistakes, we may indeed find something incredible. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Moderator's note: CLAFFEY_, please put your name at the bottom so we know who you are. Cyro Lord -------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Jim Shaffer Jr <72750.2335@compuserve.com> Subject: GB mayor says case is hoax Date: 1 Aug 90 07:18:20 GMT The following article appeared in the Williamsport, PA _Sun-Gazette_ on July 30. As you'll see, the mayor of Gulf Breeze seems to have the right attitude toward Walters, but apparently needs an education in UFOlogy otherwise. (Also, it seems that there isn't a ban on reporting the AWOLs case after all.) ---------------------------------------- GULF BREEZE, Fla. (AP) -- Mayor Ed Gray is tired of his town being made a laughingstock over UFO sightings he considers a hoax, but some merchants are cashing in on the controversey. Tourism is looking up thanks to a series of reported UFO spottings since 1988. Merchants are churning out UFO books, jewelry and T-shirts picturing a beach-going alien 'catching some rays' from a flying saucer. Gray isn't laughing. 'I have a real moral problem with my city being couched as a UFO phenomenon when it's not,' he said in a recent interview. Gulf Breeze, in the Florida Panhandle, made tabloid history in 1988 when Ed Walters, a local builder, reported the first sightings and produced photographs he claimed were of UFOs. He told of being lifted off the ground by a beam of blue light from a flying saucer and getting a visit from Spanish-speaking extraterrestrials who talked about bananas. He and his wife, Frances, even wrote a book about it. Interest in the town's own brand of upward mobility waned until recently. First, the Mutual UFO Network, a UFO research organization, held its annual symposium in neighboring Pensacola from July 6-8. The three-day event attracted 600 people. Then, six U.S. soldiers were arrested July 13 in the Gulf Breeze area after slipping away from their Army intelligence unit in West Germany. A friend of one of the soldiers, who were discharged last week for desertion, said they went to Gulf Breeze because they believed the end of the world was near and Jesus would return in a spaceship. The two events generated plenty of publicity. The Miami Herald labeled Gulf Breeze 'America's flying saucer spaceport.' Crews from the television programs 'Unsolved Mysteries,' "A Current Affair" and "Inside Edition" were here last week to do UFO shows. Gray agreed to be interviewed on each show. 'The general feedback is it's time somebody told it like it is and defended the city,' said Gray, who is a banker. ---------------------------------------- Jim Shaffer, Jr. 72750.2335@CompuServe.COM -------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Steve.Peterson@p0.f150.n30163.z1.FIDONET.ORG (Steve Peterson) Subject: Re: Cousin Bo, And Other Trivia Date: 1 Aug 90 06:00:00 GMT I recently found a source for some video and materials concerning JFK assassination, David Lifton book and video, *clean* copy of Zepruder film on video, etc. BE Video 11500 West Olympic, Suite 400 Los Angeles, Ca. 90064 Hope some of the clear evidence, puts to rest, the more wilder theories, and who knows, maybe someday the truth will emerge.
