----------------------- lwcainfo.txt ----------------------- The Longwave Club of America is an informal organization of 500-plus radio enthusiasts who spend their free time monitoring the world below 500 kHz, and/or endeavoring to communicate over significant distances within the constraints of the FCC's Part 15 rules for low-power devices in the long- wave and medium frequency bands. Its monthly journal is The LOWDOWN, which has been in publication for 20 years. Longwave frequencies host such diverse signals as aeronautical and maritime beacons, marine Morse and teletype communication, Loran and Omega navigational aids, the Groundwave Emergency Network, European and Asian broadcast stations, and (in a few countries) amateur radio operators. In addition, the low-power experimenters in the band 160-190 kHz use diverse modes, from Morse on-off keying to Binary Phase Shift Keying, coherent CW, and various voice modes. Then, too, Mother Nature emits intriguing radio signals at Very Low Frequencies, the observation of which is providing new information about our amazing planet. The LWCA tries to provide conduits for information about these varied activities, to inform members of the latest activity in the LF and VLF bands, and to reach other radio enthusiasts who may discover their own interests include some aspects of longwave. The principal tool for passing along this information is The LOWDOWN. Its columns include "Lost and Found," a beacon identifying service by Ken Stryker; "Loggings," a monthly collection of who is hearing which beacons, by Robert Montgomery; "The 1750 Meter Band," with current LF Part 15 stations, and "LF Notebook," a general purpose and mailbag column by John Davis. Other articles appear from time to time on "natural radio," mediumwave Part 15 stations, receiving techniques, advanced trans- mitting techniques, antenna construction...you name it. The subscription rates are: US - $18, Canada - $19, Overseas - $26 per year (airmail), all in U.S. funds. The mailing address is: LWCA, 45 Wildflower Rd., Levittown PA 19057. (Please note that, while this BBS is supported by volunteer efforts of individual LWCA members, you do NOT have to be in the LWCA to use it. If you find you have an interest in any area of LF or VLF radio, though, we'd be more than happy to have you as a member.)
