Frequency Database is user supported. This means that you may copy it freely and give the copies away to anyone you wish (UN-REGISTERED VERSIONS ONLY). They are in turn requested to send in a contribution if they decide to use it. The user supported software concept (also known as "Shareware") is an attempt to provide quality software at low cost. Both the user and author benefit from this plan. The user will benefit by being able to "test drive" software thoroughly before purchasing it. The author benefits by being able to enter the commercial software market while avoiding the high cost of commercial distribution. This concept helps many independent authors and small companies that otherwise would be discouraged from developing and promoting their ideas. It can only work with your support. If you obtain a user supported program from a friend and are still using it after a few weeks, then it is obviously worth something to you, and a contribution should be sent. The program you received is of the highest quality and should provide you with a easy way to organize all those little bits of paper with frequency's on them. That is how "Frequency Database" got its birth. I want to say right now thank you to my wife and daughter who put up with not having a husband and father during the long hours I spent in front of the computer programming this piece of software and for also knowing that I could do it. When you get the program it will be compressed all together if you have downloaded it you will need to UN-compress it to a sub-directory on your hard drive that you have created. Or, it will be three seperate files on one disk ( The file were listed earlier ) and you will need to copy them to a sub-directory on your Hard Drive. Frequency Database requires these things: 1.) IBM Compatible 2.) Hardrive 3.) Dos V 2.0 or greater 4.) Color Monitor (It will run on a LCD or MONO but I have no idea what it will look like. If the shades are un-desirable we'll have to fix that.) 5.) You could also put it all on a High Density Floppy but the only limit to the number of Frequencies that you can put in is amount of free space on the drive. So as you can see more space more frequencies. You will move all the files to the sub-directory you are going to use or the floppy because when you first execute the program it is going to create the files it needs to run (datafiles and key files). The Offset field in the program is a string so anything can be inputed. I use "+ 6Khz", "+ 5Mhz" and "- 6Khz" Etc. these are just some of the examples I have used for the HAM Bands. That is pretty much it help files are imbedded in the program throughout. You can access these by just pressing F1. ESC in most cases gets you out of what you just did that you wished you did'nt. One last rule HAVE FUN and PLEASE, IF YOU USE IT REGISTER IT. 73 de N7XBJ Mike 2/8/1993 Version 2.0 Well that is all I had to say as of the distribution of version 1.1. Well a few things have changed. 1.) Tones are now divided between DCS -Digital Coded Squelch, CTCSS - Sub-Audible Tones and OTHER - COR Carrier Operated Repeater, DTMF and Etc. in the other class. Thanks goes to Ted McNeal KB7FMB for this great idea. 2.) Unless you register the program you will only be able to input a frequency once ( NO DUPLICATE FREQUENCIES ). This makes the program usefull for local information. But, if you wanted to input the entire repeater directory of your state you are going to have to register the program. The REGISTERED version allows duplicate entries. I am considering sending out the reapeater frequencies for 2 meters, 220 and 440 along with all digital and CTCSS tones for your home state with the registered versions for a increased fee of say $ 10.00. What do you think drop me a note or when you register let me know maybe will do something like make it a option on upgrades. 3.) If you are upgrading to version 2.0 you will have to reformat your frequency and tone data files unfortunatly you will only be able to do that if you register. There is a conversion disk that every user gets for updating and for future updating of your files. 4.) The REGISTERED version also lets you pick whether or not to print the comment fields on reports. Thanks goes to Bill Shrader W7QMU for this idea. Well that takes us to the present. I hope that you enjoy the software and like I've said before, IF YOU USE IT, PLEASE REGISTER IT. 73 de N7XBJ Mike
