Before I write my review, let me first say that everything I've seen so far from Philip Gardiner & Reality Entertainment has been very good. They make some great DVD's and books, unfortunately this is not one of those DVD's. To be honest I'm not really sure why this DVD was made or what it had hoped to achieve.
I had high hopes, I mean when you receive a DVD which claims the following you really need to stop and take note - "this unique documentary will have you re-examine your beliefs like no
other. The Blair Witch was fiction, The Brotherhood of the Ghost is
very real...." Thats some scary stuff! I mean I was in awe, and frankly very excited. So I corralled my wife to be my co-viewer (we really wanted to watch something scary that night), put my son to bed and we're off. Well sort of.
So what exactly is this DVD and why am I so disappointed? Well the DVD is 1hr and I'd estimate the first 40 minutes is an interview with some person (I think the head of Fright Nights?) being interviewed about what is ghost hunting. I mean this was real 101 stuff, and if you need the basics outlined this is actually very good. But I've seen hundreds of these movies so it was time to fast forward... so I finally found the really scary stuff. Well sort of. So I woke up my wife (she had fallen asleep at this point) and we're ready.
Ok so what happened? (SPOILER ALERT STOP READING NOW)
Well to make a short story shorter (well 10 minutes to one line) - the main psychic got possessed by some abusive weird scary guy and bammo its over. I mean thats it really. Not scary not fun just uh well done.
The extras are just them walking around this haunted house they own and talking about its history and how scary it is.
Guys don't buy this DVD. Go buy Secret Societies - its much more interesting and scarier in its own way.
Now normally I don't do this. But I'm going to make an alternate recommendation.
If you want something theatrical and fun(well funny) and a little scary at moments - There's this show I used to watch back in the UK called Most Haunted. Now its not very scientific, but it is a lot of fun to watch. They've come under fire recently for faking stuff, but honestly if you have a Friday evening to burn this is real entertainment. I mean watching Yvette Fielding running through a house or building screaming "what the F&#K was that" is pure entertainment.
You know I've been at this kind of stuff for a long time and I have to be honest - I've never seen so many posesions in all my life, I mean honestly every other episode Derek Acorah is getting possessed by someone "of the black arts."
Anyways I'm on a tangent now - so to sum it up Most Haunted - highly entertaining, and very suspect but a great fun evening- Ghost of the Brotherhood a non starter.
