Why did Ron Paul’s campaign pay Alex Jones $1,300?
CASE CLOSED
UPDATE - Case Closed
I just received an email from Eaton letting me know that Alex Jones finally commented on the issue.
From the article it appears that Alex Jones made a mistake in donating
$2300 when he meant to donate $1000 - so the $1300 "payment" was a
refund. Makes sense to me, and heaven knows I've made mistakes like
that as well. BTW kudos to Ron Paul's people for refunding the money.
Its a rare politician who gives money back!
I just wish Alex Jones had responded to us and let us know what happened. We're pretty reasonable and we can accept an honest mistake! But thanks again to Eaton for letting us know!!
I'm leaving the original story here so you can get the whole picture, but as far as we're concerned CASE CLOSED! So get back to making more of our favorite documenteries..
Original Story
Ok so many people out there are aware of the 9/11 conspiracy research (amongst other conspiracies he's reported on) done by Alex Jones. He's a loud in your face, and fairly prolific filmmaker who has covered topics from Bohemian Grove to the New World Order and back again. His videos are usualy fairly well made, and I must admit I do find them interesting and I have seen all of them. I'd also like to point out that Jones makes them easily available and accessible on YouTube free of charge which has always been something close to my heart and my feelings about information needing and wanting to be free.
Aside from his research Jones has also created a pretty interesting media empire with everything from a Radio Show, which is a pretty interesting listen, to a online video site where you can rent his videos online. He even has a Web Hosting / Internet Access service (yes you heard that right) if you need DSL or We Hosting to fight the New World Order. You might say he's a conspiracy media magnent with a rather large list fo sites in his network, and growing every day.
Now I don't mind that part, hey I run ads on my website and I have a few websites myself. The ads help defer the costs of running it but I do think he's cashing in on his celebrity pretty hard, which is fine. Hey when you're on as many other radio shows as he is (C2C, Rense etc..) you might as well. And if nothing else he has quite the business mind and is not afraid to take risks. Hey he even had a cameo in A Scanner Darkly (can't say I've done that)! But thats not the interesting part of this.
Ok so Jones is cashing in and good for him, but what does appear to be a little odd about this whole operation is his current connection to Ron Paul. Now you may or may not know that Ron Paul has appeared many times on the Jones show to talk about a very many topics of great interest to all of us but what doesn't seem to make sense is why Ron Paul paid Jones $1300, and also of interest is that Alex Jones donated $2300 to Ron Paul. Ok so is Alex Jones a contributor or a contractor and if he is being paid by Ron Paul, for what exactly? That's a pretty big question?? I mean is Ron Paul buying airtime? I thought the Alex jones show put people on based on the topics at hand, I mean is the Jones show an infomercial?
See the real issue here is not about Ron Paul at all, is he a good candidate or not is really immaterial to the issue at hand. The larger issue is that we have a alternative journalist who is inviting a candidate on his show, covering his run, and generally being a part of the story who is taking money from the candidate. You know I remember when I was a kid there was a huge story in Southern California about people doing this at radio stations, it was called payola and it caused a HUGE investigation. Now I know what you are saying - this is small time, small money and why should we bother when larger candidates are doing some fairly shifty things. But to that I say this - Alex Jones is a leader in this field (9/11 research, conspiracies and the alternative press) and I think that as such he should be very careful about his reputation so when something like this is discovered there needs to be a statement forthcoming that puts this in context. I mean honestly if Alex Jones wrote me and said oh you've got this all wrong, I sold Ron Paul a beat up truck, I would respond by saying sorry for the posting and put that notice right here and tell you the reader what the situation is. And more importantly what the context was.
But I don't see any of that, what I see if nothing plain and simple. And I also don't believe saying candidate A did it is a good excuse. I expect more from Alex Jones. And I also don't think saying well Ron Paul had nothing to gain is a good answer either. Of course he does - he has the conspiracy vote and he needs every vote he can get!
Let me stress again that I think Alex Jones has done some great work here, but this is a very strange situation and I think Alex Jones needs to step up to the plate and answer some questions. What was that $1300 for? Was that payment for appearing on Jones radio show? Has Alex Jones done this before? So what does this mean about his research? Honestly I don't know, and I don't know if I want an answer, but I think Alex Jones owes us all one.....thats all I want, an answer. When I get an answer so do you, and trust me I'll scream it from the mountain tops!
We have contacted Alex Jones using his media contact email and we are awaiting a quote/response from him.
